What to Do With Leftover Christmas Candy

I don?t know about you, but at our house we have Christmas candy coming out of our ears. So, what to do with all of it? Try some of these ideas...

* Melt down milk chocolate bars and use for fondue

* Melt chocolate and pour into molds to make brand new chocolates to give away as a nice gift

* Use two leftover candy canes to make a heart. Glue this to a card and you have a cute homemade valentine

* Use M&Ms in a homemade trail mix

* Use candy canes as stirring sticks for hot chocolate or coffee

* Add crushed candy canes to any dessert or treat. Try them on top of ice cream, in rice crispy treats, or in brownies

* Use chopped up candy bars in place of chocolate chips in recipes. Instead of chocolate chip cookies, how about Snicker's chunk cookies? Sounds tasty to me!

* Another way to use candy bars in cookies is to use the bite-size variety or cut larger candy bars into smaller pieces. Take a ball of dough and mold the dough around the candy bar. Make sure the dough completely and thickly covers the chocolate. Bake cookies as usual. When the cookies are done, they will be filled with melted chocolate candy bars!

* Find a way to give your candy away. While it is not necessarily frugal, you might save money in the long run if it means keeping yours and your kids' teeth healthy. Use the candy for a scavenger hunt for the neighborhood kids, give it to a local food bank, or save it for goody bags for your child's birthday party

* If nothing else, stick some of your leftover chocolate in the freezer for use later. This will prevent the chocolate from getting white and crumbly.

* Use the candy! A friend of mine has a cute little display on her wall. It is a shelf filled with glass jars that have assorted candies in them. It is reminiscent of an old-fashioned candy shop and very cute.

I plan on using my teeny candy canes to decorate a styrofoam cone to look like a candy tree. Then I will spray varnish it so that it's not sticky and use it for decorating during the holidays!
