Where to Buy Foodby Mary Ann Romans | More from this Blogger 11 Apr 2009 08:45 AM If you are tired of the high prices at your local grocery store, try the following places to by food. You may just find your grocery bill shrinking while your stock pile increases. Dollar Store People tend to be a little hesitant about purchasing groceries at a dollar store. I am not exactly sire why this is the case. After all, you can see the expiration dates on the food and check them. I guess it is just the association of cheap stuff and food. Most of the brands will be generics, but there are also quite a few name brand choices. Try and compare some of the groceries. You may be surprised. Natural Food Store While we think of a natural food store or organic food store as expensive, the truth is that many of them are quite reasonable and even less expensive than traditional grocery stores. The real secret is to find one that is attached to a farm, dairy or other natural business. I buy flour in bulk at an Amish owned store and save quite a bit. They mill the flour themselves, and it is just wonderful. Drug Store The chain drug stores, such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite-Aid seem to be trying to outdo themselves with freebies and bargains when you use their loyalty cards and combine the deals with coupons. While this can be a little work, you will generally find better deals on specific items at these stores when they are running a promotion. Non-traditional grocery store Some of the best deals, especially on individual products can be found at the non-traditional or off-beat grocery store. In my area, there are two of these types of stores. Trader Joes has the absolutely best prices on milk and fruit that can't be beat elsewhere, especially organic milk and fruit. Aldis is a no-nonsense store that requires a deposit on the shopping carts and a charge for bags if you don't bring your own, but the prices on basics, such as butter, baking mixes and frozen prepared food is very low.
