Support Your Pets and The Earth with Planet Petco

An eco-conscious dog As we come out of Earth Day weekend, I’d like to take a look at how we pet owners can contribute to keeping the planet clean. Many animal lovers I know, myself included, also love nature and are often sympathetic with the green movement. However, for some of us who don’t live in more urban areas it might be difficult to obtain many environment-friendly pet items. Sometimes small local stores might carry them, but at high prices some might not be able to afford. Others might not have any purchasing options nearby. Options abound on the internet, … Continue reading

Frugal Valentines Blogs

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope your day is filled with lots of good things. Here we are battling lots of snow. Yesterday, I paid a group of kids $15 to shovel the walk, and it was not very frugal. They did a very poor job. So, I was very resigned to having to shovel the rest of the snow today. Wow, as I was writing this, my very great neighbor knocked on the door. He offered to move my car so he could use his snow blower on the street. He already did our walk and the sidewalks on the … Continue reading

Is That Deal As Good As It Looks?

There are times when what seems like a good thing is really not so good at all if you look at it more carefully. Sometimes if you are in a tight spot financially, options can appear that seem like they are tailor made for people just like you. Grocery and Gas Station Discount Promotions

When the Tom Thumb supermarket moved in roughly 14 miles away, I wasn’t excited about the attached gas station. It was one of the more expensive stations in the area. The three cents per gallon discount I would get just for using my Tom Thumb rewards card wasn’t worth it. I could get cheaper gas on my way to somewhere else. I don’t remember when Tom Thumb decided to change its price structure, but the gas was more affordable. A three cent a gallon discount after shopping for groceries was a nice perk. I could save three cents a gallon … Continue reading

Free is Good

When the household budget gets really tight, the first thing that is placed on the chopping block is my scrapbooking hobby. I completely understand the decision, as food, insurance and my young daughter’s extracurricular activities take priority over photos and fancy embellishments. What’s more, when there is a freeze on funds for family hobbies it forces me to be more creative with my scrapbooking. Fortunately for me and thousands of other cash-strapped scrappers, there are a dozens of websites that offer free scrapbooking supplies. I am not a huge fan of digital scrapbooking, but when times are tough I often … Continue reading

Finances and Giving

Admittedly, I am not the best person to be giving advice about giving and finances; so I’m not going there. There does seem to be a supernatural impact in giving though whether by our time or with money. I remember years ago when my husband and I were starting out. We were poor. We prided ourselves in not getting over our heads into debt, but did find ourselves charging our rent a couple times to make due. He was working 40 hours a week and I about 30. We were just beginning to understand what leaning on God for our … Continue reading
